DOST bannersbest CEST communities during the 2020 science week    


To highlight the best practices of the communities empowered through the support of different science, technology, and innovation (STI) programs, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII is set to award the Best Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology (CEST) beneficiaries during its forum on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, 9:00-11:00 AM, as part of the country’s National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) virtual celebration this year.

With the support of the Office of the Undersecretary for Regional Operations and the help of DOST Regional Offices and Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTC), CEST has become one of DOST’s flagship programs that is able to provide S&T interventions that promote sustainable development in livelihood, health and nutrition, environmental protection and conservation, education, and disaster risk reduction and management to numerous disadvantaged communities nationwide.

The event aims to showcase the achievements of current beneficiaries and share experiences on how S&T helped the ordinary Filipinos living ineconomically challenged communities in the regions improve their lives.

The said forum will also launch the CEST online portal that will help the agency reach out to the program’s beneficiaries under the new normal.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. dela Peña, Undersecretary for Regional Operations Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano, and DOST Regional Directors are among the guest speakers for the event where they will share the vision of the program and the plans for the succeeding years.

The 2020 NSTW is an annual celebration spearheaded by the DOST to showcase significant contributions of science and technology to national development and inclusive growth. This year’s theme is aligned with the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and isaptly titled, “Agham at Teknolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan, at Kinabukasan”.
