Complementary Food will soon serve Ifugao, to be showcased in the coming 2021 NSTW
Ifugao is one of the eight identified Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in the country of the Department of Science and Technology - Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).
The identified area has recorded ‘persistent malnutrition’ among infants and young children, and was listed as priority area for the department’s Complementary Food Production Facilities (CFPF).
CFPF in Ifugao State University (IFSU) will soon showcase its products thru the 2021 National Science and Technology Week’s (NSTW) webinar on November 26, 2021, 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
The said facility in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is part of DOST-FNRI’s action, in collaboration with DOST-CAR and IFSU, for the implementation of the Malnutrition Reduction Program or MRP to areas belonging to GIDAs, with a total project cost of P4,090,491.92.
BIGMO: Rice-Mongo Ready-to-Cook Baby Food Blend, which provides nutrients for infants and young children, is one of the two complementary food products targeted to be produced in the facility. BIGMO is among the technology-based products of an adopter of DOST-FNRI which produces rice-monggo food supplements.
To advance the knowledge and skills of the CFPF personnel and university researchers is the main goal of the project for successful operation towards quality assurance and innovation.
DOST-FNRI will be primarily responsible in the conduct of trainings on the operation and maintenance of the equipment, production of complementary foods, basic food safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and business accounting to the CFPF staff.
This is just another proof of science-based intervention programs of DOST-FNRI in combating malnutrition, not only in Ifugao, but it is targeting the whole country, where the program has already started in other areas.
