DOST-XI promotes gender sensitivity and use of gender fair language during 2021 RSTW

With the aim of enjoining solidarity towards equal representation and maintaining the reputation of being a non-discriminatory agency, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST-XI) successfully conducted a two-day Gender Sensitivity and Use of Gender Fair Language Webinar last 8-9 November 2021 with over 150 attendees from within and outside Davao region.

The webinar featured engaging discussions about the common gender issues such as gender biases, discrimination amongst women, socialization and stereotyping with resource speakers, namely: Aivan Lloyd Calonia, Project Assistant II of DOST VIII and part of DOST-wide Speaker’s Bureau for GAD, and Maria Fe B. Singson, Supervising Science Research Specialist and DOST-wide Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator.

DOST-XI continuously advocates gender-responsive campaigns in ensuring equal representation across the entire organization. One primary example is the use of GAD Scorecards in the implementation of Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

“As public servants, the whole DOST pledges to continue to advance our work through science, engineering, technology and innovation, with equal representation and opportunities for all genders”, said Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III, DOST-XI Regional Director.

The webinar was featured as one of the post-events of the 2021 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) Celebration.

Together with the celebration of the RSTW in all regions, the 2021 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) with his year’s theme, ‘’Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon’’, remains a testament to DOST’s continued commitment to provide science, technology, and innovation to the people as it pivots amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

True to its mandate, the DOST continues to serve by bringing science, technology, and innovation to our doorsteps with the virtual staging of the 2021 NSTW.
