Ahead of the exhibits, fora, seminars, and workshops, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set once again to recognize Philippine excellence in science and technology (S&T) at this year’s National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
At the NSTW opening ceremonies, the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) will confer four awards to research and development (R&D) specialists for their outstanding S&T contributions in the form of medals, plaques, and cash prizes.
The NSTW Outstanding R&D Awards will be granted to individuals or groups for their Philippine-based research published in peer-reviewed S&T journals. Their works shall be merited for their originality, creativity, validity, substantiveness, clarity, and impact.
To be bestowed will be the Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal for Basic Research to the winning entry in the mathematical, physical, or life sciences, and the Julian A. Banzon Medal for Applied Research in agriculture, industry, health, or social sciences.
The NSTW Outstanding Science Administrator Award or the Dioscoro L. Umali Medal will be granted to an individual for one’s effective management and implementation of plans and programs that promote technological development and resource generation.
Lasty, the NSTW Outstanding Technology Commercialization Award or the Gregorio Y. Zara Medal will be granted to an individual whose commercialized technology have been proven original, patentable, value-adding, profitable, eco-friendly, and beneficial.
All four awards will be conferred during the NSTW opening ceremonies happening on 22 November 2021 at 10:30 AM on live broadcast at the NSTW official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/nstwdost.
This year’s NSTW will be celebrated once again virtually from 22–28 Nov 2021 under the theme “Aghám at Teknolohíya: Tugón sa Hámon ng Panahón” (Science and Technology: Response to the Challenge of the Time).
The NSTW aims to bring S&T closer to the people by letting them experience the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in improving the people’s quality of life, protecting the environment, and contributing to national development and inclusive growth.
